The Practices
(Spiritual Habits)
What will God do in us?
Our mission is to help you follow Jesus. We want every single person to take his or her next step in discipleship.
We believe discipleship is intentional. People don’t grow spiritually by accident, they grow through consistent rhythms that shape their hearts and align their lives with Jesus. At Grissom, we call these rhythms The Practices because they are the very practices that continually form us into disciples of Jesus who make disciples.
Here is what The Practices look like in the life of our church:
GATHERING TOGETHER
We are a church family who gathers regularly.
(Acts 2:42–47; Hebrews 10:25)
When we gather, we learn to live as the people of God, and when we gather in community, we get to practice everything we’ve learned. We encourage one another. We carry one another’s burdens. We sharpen each other spiritually. We live out the “one anothers” of Scripture. Gathering together forms us and forms disciples through us.
GROWING TOGETHER
We are followers of Jesus who grow spiritually.
(John 15:1–8; Romans 12:2; Colossians 2:6–7)
Spiritual growth is not automatic. It requires intentionality. We grow by learning the way of Jesus, following the way of Jesus, and teaching others to do the same. This practice includes reading the Bible, engaging Scripture in community, and practicing spiritual disciplines regularly. These habits anchor us in Christ, shape our character, and fuel transformation. Growing together makes disciples mature, steady, and fruitful.
GIVING TOGETHER
We are a team that gives wholeheartedly.
(Proverbs 3:9; Mark 10:45; Ephesians 2:10)
We don’t own anything, we steward everything. Giving our time, talent, and treasure is an act of worship and a declaration of trust. When we serve with our abilities and give from our resources, we’re saying, “My life belongs to God, not me.” These rhythms shape us into people who live generously, sacrificially, and joyfully for the Kingdom. Giving together fuels the mission and forms generous disciples.
GOING TOGETHER
We are multipliers who go intentionally.
(Matthew 28:18–20; Acts 1:8; 2 Timothy 2:2)
This practice is about joining Jesus in what He is already doing in the world. We go to our neighbors, coworkers, and friends with love, courage, and purpose. When we live as disciple makers where we live, work, study, and play, God uses us to draw people to Himself. Going together multiplies the Gospel in our relationships, homes, workplaces, and beyond.
